About Ayurveda
Ayurveda is the oldest system of
medicine which has its strong roots in India. The Sanskrit word
ayurveda means the "science of Life".Ayurveda considers physical
body, inner soul and mind as inseparable constituents of all
living beings. Hence according to ayurveda complete wellness is
wellness of body and mind. Nature has blessed us with immune
system to resist diseases. Strong immune system protects the
body from diseases. Ayurveda teaches the methods to strengthen
our immune system. Thus ayurveda lay emphasis on prevention of
diseases.
Ayurveda is a part of Atharvaveda.
Charaka Samhita, Sushruta samhita, and ashtanga hridaya are
treatises of ayurveda. Charaka Samhita deals with internal
medicine and Sushruta Samhita deals with surgery. The Astanga
Hridaya is a more concise compilation of Charaka and Sushruta
Samhitas.
