Male infertility is increasing day by day. Number of infertile men is on raise. This may be due to increased level of stress, extended work timings, use of modern gadgets like cell phones, laptops and computers. Decreased physical activity due to sedentary life style adds up to the causes. Obesity, diabetes and low testosterone are in raise as new lifestyle diseases. Inadequate supply of nutrients, overheating of testicles due to laptops, increased temperature of testicles due to obesity are being viewed as causes of low sperm count and low sperm motility.

Dates: Dates are known as “Kharjura” in Ayurveda. It has “Madhura Rasa” (sweet to taste) and has “snigdha” (increases moistness or stickiness of tissues) property. According to principles of Ayurveda dates act as body coolant and provide the best atmosphere for sperm production. Hence it is known as “shukrala” or semen increasing fruit. Dates also provide lot of fibres which help to get rid of constipation. Easy bowel movement always normalise metabolism and keeps digestion healthy. Dates provide plenty of vitamins and minerals which help to overcome nutrition deficiency like anaemia. The potassium in dates also help to rectify erectile dysfunction which is another cause of male infertility.
Raisins: Raisins are sweet to taste and they too act as body coolants. Raisins are rich source of iron and fibres. Raisins unlike fresh grapes, are rich and concentrated sources of energy, vitamins, electrolytes, anti-oxidants and minerals Hence they help to fight anaemia and constipation. Raisins help to increase fertility of Men and women. They increase quality and quantity of semen, sperm count and sperm motility. They also help to strengthen the female reproductive system. Raisins are known as “Vrishya”, which means they help in erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation the two main causes for male infertility.
Figs: Figs are known as FALGU or RAJAOUDUMBARA in Ayurveda. Dried figs are excellent source of minerals like calcium, copper, potassium, manganese, iron, selenium and zinc. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids. Copper is required in the production of red blood cells. Iron is required for red blood cell. All these minerals occur in plenty in figs thus improving the health of sperm cells and boosting their production. Figs are eulogized as Vrishya or aphrodisiac by Ayurveda Acharyas. They are used as “shukra dhatu” or healthy semen increasing ingredient in Vajikarana Therapy.
