Ayuveda describes asthi vrana as a wound which heals with lots of difficulty. Osteomylitis is infection of bone caused by pus forming bacteria or fungi. This may affect people of any age.
Usually anemia or weakness, foreign body in bone, surgery related to bone, untreated infections near bone, injury etc lead to this condition. The symptoms of osteomyelitis is fever, pain in affected part and weight loss.
Osteomyelitis is usaually treated with a long course of antibiotics, antifungal medicines. If abscess is present it is drained through surgery .
