It is truly amazing to think about all of the gifts that nature gives us to keep us healthy and beautiful. With a little extra time and a trip to the grocery store, you can literally give yourself a series of spa treatments right at home. I know we’ve all heard of the amazing uses of common household and/or apple cider vinegar, but how many of you out there actually have tried them? After all, it sounds like a very stinky venture to apply vinegar to your own self.

Well I have news for you: it is not as terribly stinky as it sounds, the smell does fade quickly and it is totally worth the benefits. Here’s why. First of all, apple cider vinegar is rich in alpha-hydroxy acids, which dissolves fatty deposits on the skin’s surface and reduces scaly conditions, making skin softer and smoother. If suffering from the occasional pimple or acne, a vingar remedy is incredibly effective for many. In fact, its saved my face at important events on several occasions.

Vinegar is also great for fighting dandruff, and you wont have to spend money on expensive dandruff shampoos if you use it (again, great for those of use trying to save during hard economic times). Try this recipe: Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar to 3 parts warm water to control dandruff. You could also apply undiluted vinegar to the scalp, allow it to penetrate, then shampoo. Even better—infuse your vinegar for a week with fresh rosemary or rosemary oil before use for an invigorating blast to the scalp and a much fresher fragrance.

For those of you who color your hair, vinegar is great for a final rinse, a dilution of white vinegar with cold water, to seal your color for longer. Vinegar is also a great for a warm foot soak, excellent for callouses and corns and its great for varicose veins too. Some truly ambitious people out there even commit to drinking a tablespoon of vinegar in warm water with a bit of honey every morning for internal cleansing. This I have not yet tried, I admit.
