-- Moisturize daily. Cream moisturizers are better than lotions for normalto dry skin. People with sensitive skin should choose a moisturizer without fragrance or lanolin.

-- Cleanse your skin, but don't overdo it. It is enough to wash your face, hands, feet, and between the folds of your skinonce a day. The trunk, arms, and legs can be rinsed daily, but it is not necessary to use soap or cleanser on these areas every day. Too much cleansing removes the skin's natural moisturizers.

-- Limit the use of hot water and soap. If you have "winter itch," take short lukewarm showers or baths with a non-irritating, non-detergent-based cleanser. Immediately afterward, apply a "water-in-oil" -- type moisturizer. Gently pat skin dry.

-- Humidify. Humidifiers can be beneficial. However, be sure to clean the unit according to the manufacturer's instructions to reduce mold and fungi.

-- Protect yourself from the wind. Cover your face and use a petroleum-based balm for your lips.

-- Avoid extreme cold. Cold temperatures can cause skin disorders or frostbite in some people. See a doctor immediately if you develop color changes in your hands or feet accompanied by pain or ulceration. If you develop extreme pain followed by loss of sensation in a finger or toe, you may have frostbite.

-- Protect your skin from the sun. Winter sun can be as dangerous for the skin as summer sun. It can lead to premature aging of the skin and skin cancer. When outdoors for prolonged periods, use a sunscreen with a sun-protection factor of 15 or greater.

-- Exercise. For skin with a healthy glow, 20 to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise three times a week is recommended.

-- See your dermatologist. If you have persistent dry skin, scaling, itching, skin growths that concern you, or other rashes, see your dermatologist -- not only in winter but throughout the year.

Good reasons to use virgin coconut oil:
· Virgin coconut oil is the perfect moisturizer. -It can be used to soften dry and scaly skin which is often susceptible to infections. It also prevents unsightly pimples and can be used as lip balm.
· Virgin coconut oil will keep your skin young-looking- It strengthens connective tissues so wrinklesand sagging of the skin is prevented. Dead cells on the outer surface of the skin are removed, making your skin glow.
· Virgin coconut oil prevents the sun’s damaging effects. Its antioxidant properties will prevent skin from sagging and eliminate wrinkles. Age spots and skin cancer usually caused by the sun’s harmful rays is also avoided. Coconut oil is actually an ingredient of many suntan lotions.
· Virgin coconut oil has antimicrobial properties.-It helps prevent bacterial and fungal infections. The MCFA’s when broken down into free fatty acids can kill disease-causing organisms like bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
When used correctly and regularly, virgin coconut oil could help you keep your skin soft and smooth. It also helps prevent premature aging and wrinklingof your skin. But, once again…when applied correctly and regularly.
Here are some tips on how to apply the oil to your skin:
o Use virgin coconut oil as a cleanser
For certain people, this technique works nicely but not for others. You should try it for yourself to prove whether this will work well for you or not. Just gently wipe most of the oil off with a warmed wet washcloth.
o Use virgin coconut oil after shower
Some others reach amazing results when they apply the oil to their cleansed moist skin. I say this is a better technique, because you give a chance to the virgin coconut oil to absorb well to your skin.
o Use virgin coconut oil before you go to bed
The bottom line in this technique is that you must not pat it dry! Use the oil as your new moisturizer and expect amazing results. Do not hesitate to apply the oil to your entire body, even your lips.
o Virgin coconut oil for deodorant
Apply virgin coconut oil to your underarms…it turns out to be a great deodorant also!
Those are the 4 techniques you could use with virgin coconut oil to attain healthier skin. But, please be aware that the process differs with different people. Some need a longer time to see the effects.
To help you achieve best results, I suggest you also take virgin coconut oil to your diet. Use it externally and internally…

Caring for Dry Skin Type:
For dry skin use a creamy cleanser to melt away dirt. Leave it on your skin before sweeping it
away with cotton wool. Splash cold water onto your face to clean and refresh your skin. Use a
thick cream moisturiser to seal in as much moisture as possible.
To care for oily skin you should start with a gentle, foaming facial wash. This will remove dirt
and oil without stripping away moisture. Soak cotton wool in a gentle astringent lotion
and sweep it over your skin to refresh and cool it. Even oily skin needs a moisturiser, but chose
a light, watery fluid; this will be enough for your skin. Allow the moisturiser to sink in and
then absorb the excess with a tissue to prevent shine.
