Dandruff in Ayurveda
Dandruff causes hair fall or hair loss, itching in scalp, acne, pimples and recurrent infection of facial skin. Natural ayurvedic herbs help to get rid of dandruff.
According to dosha theory of Ayurveda, dandruff is caused by vitiation of vata dosha and kapha dosha which are seated in scalp. Ayurveda has recommended many effective herbal formulations and remedies in form of oil, hair wash and hair pack , for dandruff.
What is dandruff ?
In normal conditions the new cells of scalp skin push the older ones to the surface of scalp. The dead and old cells are shed almost in an invisible way. But in few conditions this process becomes unusually rapid and the dead cells are shed in form of dry flakes. These flakes collectively constitute what we call dandruff.
As said earlier ayurvedic principles point towards imbalance of kapha and vayu as cause of this scalp condition. Vitiated vayu makes the scalp skin dry and kapha causes itching of scalp. Thus dried scalp skin comes out in flakes.
What causes dandruff ? Doshas Involved
Anything which causes imbalance of vayu and kapha can lead to formation of dandruff. Few things which imbalance these two are as follows.
Ill maintained scalp
When you do not wash your scalp frequently and keep it clean it accumulates grease, dirt and microbes. This irritates scalp to cause itchy and flaky scalp
Exposure of scalp to harsh conditions
Very hot, cold, dry and too much humidity affects scalp health. Hypersensitivity to dust, smoke, shampoos, hair colours, curlers, hot hair curlers etc can also cause damage.
Usually any hormonal imbalance causes a dip in immunity. Low immunity leads to infection of scalp, which in turn can cause dandruff. Conditions like puberty, PCOS or PCOD, pregnancy, menopause, thyroid hormone imbalance etc are examples of hormonal imbalance.
Improper nourishment leading to poor health:
When vata gets imbalanced agni (body fire) also gets thrown out of balance. This causes indigestion which leads to malabsorption of food. Poor food absorption causes improper nourishment.
Stress and anxiety or mental pressure releases stress hormones which almost affects all parts of body. Stress is main factor which imbalances doshas.
