PCOS and Weight Loss
Most women tend to gain weight at some point of their life. But women who have polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS find it very difficult to lose weight. It is because of hormonal imbalance which they face due to PCOS.. Ladies with PCOS become insulin resistant. This leads to production of androgens or male hormones. Increased androgens in woman’s body leads to apple shaped weight gain, increased facial hair and hoarseness of voice.

Ayurvedic Kitchen Herbs for PCOS
The following herbs which are regularly used in cooking are very useful in PCOS and they also help in weight loss
CUMIN SEEDS OR JEERA FOR PCOS:

How to use Cumin Seeds in PCOS to lose weight:
The best way to use cumin seeds is to boil 2 tea spoons of cumin seeds in 1 litre of water. Store this water in a thermos and drink 1/2 glass of warm jeera water every hour. Another alternative is lightly roast cumin seeds and powder it. You can store this powder in an air tight container. Sprinkle this powder on salads, juices or smoothies.
TURMERIC POWDER OR HALDI FOR PCOS:
Turmeric is being used in Indian kitchen from ages. This is a miraculous herb which has innumerable medicinal properties. Turmeric rejuvenates the liver and acts as an antimicrobial. How to use Haldi in PCOS to lose weight:
Indian women regularly use turmeric powder in cooking. Adding a pinch of this herb while cooking not only enhances the colour of dish but also imparts its medicinal properties to food. Turmeric can also be consumed along with warm water or milk. Add a pinch of turmeric in hot milk or hot water and stir it well. This can be consumed twice daily. When you are using this herb for weight loss , better to add this for low fat milk or just water. CINNAMON OR DALCHINI FOR PCOS:

How to use Cinnamon in PCOS and Weight Loss:
Cinnamon can be used in form of cinnamon tea. Take 1 inch of cinnamon and break it into small pieces. Boil these pieces with a cup of water. Allow it warm down. Drink this tea with a dash of honey or lemon. Cinnamon powder can be used in smoothies, fruit salads or just a pinch of this can be taken with honey. Do not consume this spice in excess. It may induce gastric irritation, hypoglycemia or vomiting.
BITTER GOURD OR BITTER MELON OR KARELA :
Bitter taste or Tikta rasa is opposite of sweet taste or madhura rasa. Bitter gourd helps to reduce insulin sensitivity and also helps in weight loss. Based on principles of Ayurveda bitter gourd shrinks the fat tissues and dries it up. Thus this herb is of great help as an aid to address PCOS and Obesity. How to use Bitter gourd or bitter melon in PCOS :
Bitter gourd can be used in the form of juice. Take 1/3 rd of bitter gourd and scoop out its seed. Chop this into fine pieces and blend in a mixie along with half cup of water. Strain this juice to remove fibres and drink juice along with honey and lemon. Bitter melon can also be used in salads or curries.
Yashtimadhu or Licorice for PCOS
Yashtimadhu or Licorice is very sweet tasting herb which help to reduce appetite and boost metabolism. According to ayurveda It helps in weight loss and also controls irregular bleeding. Hence yashtimadhu or Licorice can be effectively used in PCOS or PCOD
How to Use Yashtimadhu or Licorice in PCOS or PCOD
Yashtimadhu or Licorice can be used in form of tea. Or small pieces of its root can be chewed in empty stomach before meal. But take care not to consume more than 5 gms per day.

Neem and Tulsi
