About masha parni or jangli udad
Masha Parni is a climber and grows all over India. In ayurveda it is popular as mahaasahaa, mangalya , kalyani .It is known as Ban udad and mashvan in hindi , maashaanee and bankalaai in bengali, raan udad in marathi, jangli udad in gujarati and Kaadu uddu in Kannada. The pods of this plant are 1-3 inches long and contain dark brown seeds which are 8-10 in number. It bears white or yellow flowers. All parts of this plant are used for medicinal purpose.
Ayurveda medicinal properties of Teramnus Labialis
Ayurveda acharyas explain medicinal properties of this plant as follows.
Based on principles of Ayurveda Teramnus Labialis is bitter to taste (tikta rasa) and also has sweet taste (madhura rasa). It is light to digest (laghu) and improves moistness and softness of tissues (snigdha). It retains sweet taste after digestion and has cold potency (sheeta veerya). Hence it balances vata dosha and pitta dosha, increases kapha dosha.
Health Benefits and Uses of Ban Udad or Van udad
Due to its medicinal qualities jangli udad have many uses in ayurvedic treatment.
Useful in Diseases of vata origin (nervous system)
It is highly useful in treatments of facial paralysis, arthritis , hemiplegia etc which arise due to vitiation of vata dosha.
This herb is used as main ingredient in ayurvedic preparations which address gout and bleeding disorders.
Helps in digestion problems.
It is praised as possessing deepana (improves digestion), snehana (soothing inflamed parts of digestive system) and grahi (strengthens spincters and membranes of gut). Hence it is recommended in colic, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and constipation. Decoction of masha parni helps in diarrhoea, giardiasis and haemorrhoids (piles)
